Beginning in the late 80's Jennifer Viets found a way to combine her theater background with her work as a Child Life Specialist at Chicago's Childrens Memorial Hospital. She formed a NFP theater company called  "A Spoonful of Sugar" and later started one of the countries first Artist-In-Residence programs in a hosptial.

Since those initial programs coursework was designed for Northwestern Medical School for first and second year medical students - that brought them together with children and adults at the Rehabilitation Institue of Chicago. This led to a program for all incoming medical residents at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and at Weiss Hospital in Chicago.

Her team of multi-disciplinary artists have provided workshops for patients and staff in hospitals throughout the city.
